Pedestrian hit by bus on main road in east London, forcing it to close

A bus hit a pedestrian in Whitechapel on Tuesday, forcing the closure of a major road.

The collision on Cambridge Heath Road on Tuesday morning left a pedestrian injured, who was rushed to an east London hospital.

However, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, a Met Police spokesman said.

The road was closed while police attended the scene but reopened as of 2pm.

The collision happened near Darling Row, which is close to Whitechapel station.

Buses 106 and 254 were also diverted following the accident.

A Met spokesman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 10.53am on Tuesday 18 June to reports of a road traffic collision in Cambridge Heath Road, E1.

“Officers and LAS attended and found a bus in collision with a pedestrian.

“They were taken to an east London hospital where their injuries were deemed not to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“No arrests have been made.”
