How Manchester United now view Amad Diallo means bad news for £86m player

Amad Diallo has stepped up to start for Erik ten Hag in the final weeks of the Premier League season for Manchester United.

Last season was a bizarre one for many reasons at Manchester United. But for Amad Diallo, the most bizarre thing will have been how quickly he went from zero to hero.

Injured in the early months of the season, the Ivorian returned in January only to play until he was given a chance in the FA Cup against Liverpool.

In that game, Amad came off the bench to score the winning goal in that 4-3 quarter-final victory, a goal that seems even more important after United went on to lift the trophy.

After this, he disappeared again, but ended up starting a few games at the very end of the Premier League season, scoring and assisting against Newcastle.

Now, it has been revealed how the club feel about him this summer and it spells bad news for one player in the squad.

How Manchester United feel about Amad Diallo

Until Amad was handed two back-to-back starts to end the Premier League season, Amad Diallo’s future looked dim to say the least.

He will not have been content with how little he played last season compared to Antony, especially when his impact was so much greater.

But now, according to the Manchester Evening News, Amad will have a new role at the club next season after impressing during his appearances to end the season.

The report explains that Amad is now seen as an integral member of the squad for the future, which seems fair considering when he played, it was very impressive.

United are said to have placed themselves in the same category as Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund as players set to star at Old Trafford going forward. With Erik ten Hag, including Amad in this quartet during a recent interview.

But this leaves the £86m man out in the cold, without a place in the starting line-up and quickly losing the support of the Ten Hag.

Where does this leave Antony?

With Amad becoming a bona fide first-team star, this will only push Antony further up the United squad. This is also the case as the Ten Hag loses patience with him and reports have even explained that he has broken Antony.

Amad is so “talented” and expect more to come next season. This could leave Antony with limited opportunities, but he can hardly argue otherwise after a terrible campaign.

Over the course of the entire campaign, Amad played just 471 minutes in all competitions, and in that time he scored twice and assisted once – an average of contributing one goal for every 157 minutes he was on the pitch . That’s a number that would surely have been more if it hadn’t been limited to cameos.

In comparison, Antony has 1,910 minutes on the pitch and has scored three and assisted two in that time – a goal contribution every 382 minutes.

For Antony, his career could be at a strange crossroads, with a future at United looking unlikely, but it’s also a struggle to expect him to have many clubs in the running to sign him.
