Merseyside Police issued a statement regarding the incident this evening.

The force has confirmed that a man in his 20s has suffered a serious leg injury after coming off his electric dirt bike in Kirkby.

A spokesman for the force said: “At around 6.20pm the emergency services were called to reports that a rider had clipped a fence and come off his bike on Simonswood Lane.

“The rider, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

“Officers are carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident but it is believed that no other vehicles are involved at this stage.

“The road closure was in place while emergency services dealt with the incident and has now been lifted.”

At the scene we were told that a man suffered leg injuries. How these injuries occurred has yet to be identified.

These are unconfirmed reports at this stage.

Merseyside Police have been contacted for comment.

We heard another similar report at the scene of a “teenager on a bike” being involved in this incident.

We have yet to hear from Merseyside Police as to whether anyone was injured.

A witness who saw the police said he did not know exactly what happened, but claims the incident involved a “boy on a bike”.

He added that it “looked bad”.

It is still unclear what the nature of this incident is as we await details from Merseyside Police.

A witness earlier sent images from the scene as it unfolded.

Around seven police cars, including matrix vans, could be seen and a police cordon was placed across the road.
