Liam Rosenior explains why Birmingham City will be ‘very happy’ with Ryan Allsop

Liam Rosenior believes Ryan Allsop will make the Bluenoses “very happy” when he pulls on the Birmingham City goalkeeper shirt next season.

The 32-year-old Brummie became the Blues’ first signing of the summer transfer window. He leaves Hull City after one season after helping the Tigers secure a seventh-place finish in the Championship.

Allsop’s exit is partly due to Rosenior being sacked by Hull owner Acun Ilicali in May. The Blues have made a move to secure the services of a goalkeeper renowned for his skill with the ball at his feet.

Speaking exclusively to Birmingham Live, Former Hull boss Rosenior said: “He’s very comfortable in possession and he’s also fantastic with long-range passes, so for any team in possession he’ll help them. He was brilliant for me in the two seasons I had with him at Derby and Hull.

“He is a good professional, he gets along well with all the players. He is very hardworking and constantly wants to improve. And now he is at an age where he can be a leader. He’s a fantastic character and I’m sure Birmingham will be really happy to see him play.”

Allsop has spent the last three seasons playing regularly in the Championship for Hull, Cardiff City and Derby County, so it could be seen as a coup for the Blues to tempt him back to League One. But Rosenior is not at all surprised by the fact that his former director chose to return home.
