Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County have not been given the go-ahead for Dan Ellison

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are set to miss out on centre-back Dan Ellison, with a move to Bristol Rovers on the cards, according to Football Insider.

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County will both be playing Championship football next season.

While the Owls battled the odds to avoid relegation under Danny Rohl, the Rams booked their place back in the second tier after finishing 2nd in League One.

Both clubs will be looking to wrap up a host of deals this summer as they look to build on last season’s achievements. However, the Championship pair look like they will have to move a potential target from their shortlists.

Football Insider reports that Chippenham Town star Dan Ellison is set to join League One side Bristol Rovers as he makes the big step up to the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Reading have courted Ellison, 19, but it is the Gas who have seen a bid accepted for the centre-back.

A separate report from Bristol Live reporter Dan Hargraves claims Rovers are set to sign Ellison for just £10,000 after triggering his release clause.

It marks an impressive deal for Matt Taylor and co, beating Championship sides to his signature.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A big step forward

Few players make as big a leap as that from National League South to League One, so it is a testament to Ellison’s current ability and potential that he is moving to Bristol Rovers.

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County would certainly have been tempting options for the Chippenham Town defender, but Gasul appears to have made an enticing swoop to land him.

He is perhaps more likely to earn a first-team place with the League One club than he is in the Championship at this stage.

Taylor is looking to build a young and talented squad at Memorial Stadium with some experienced players on board to provide some pedigree and leadership. Ellison certainly falls into the former category as he begins his exciting move.

Looking elsewhere

With Ellison seemingly heading elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County will turn their attention to other targets as they look to strengthen their ranks this summer.

Both clubs are likely to be in the market for defensive additions and at £10,000, Ellison would make for an incredibly astute signing. However, both have other options on their radar.

On Wednesday, question marks still surrounded the futures of Di’Shon Bernard and Dominic Iorfa. Both see their deals expire at the end of this month.

As for the Rams, they will need other options alongside Eiran Cashin, Sonny Bradley and Curtis Nelson as they return to the Championship.
