Tyler Adams shares what he really thinks about Leeds United now and the club’s supporters

Tyler Adams has now delivered his verdict on Leeds United and the club’s supporters 12 months after leaving Elland Road following relegation from the Premier League.

The USA skipper was one of Jesse Marsch’s main signings in the summer of 2022 and one of several players Marsch reunited with at Elland Road alongside Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober and others.

While the likes of Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Weston McKennie struggled at Elland Road, Adams was excellent. But the midfielder picked up an injury soon after Marsch was sacked in February 2023.

It saw the former Leipzig star miss the rest of the season and that played a big part in Leeds eventually suffering relegation to the Championship, where Daniel Farke currently resides with his Leeds side.

Adams jumped ship instead of trying to help Leeds back to the top flight, passing up his first chance to join Bournemouth and spent most of the 2023-24 season injured and playing just four times.

Adams shares his verdict on Leeds and the club’s supporters

Angus Kinnear famously said he would not send Adams a Christmas card following his departure, with the midfielder keen to leave Leeds and return to the Premier League as soon as possible.

Although his move was financially necessary, with Bournemouth paying £23m for the privilege, his desire to get out of Leeds after relegation was no different to the eight men who used the loan clause of Victor Orta.

Adams gave his verdict on Leeds to The Mail this week: “’It was a no-brainer (to join). The truth? Honestly, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. When things really work, it’s amazing – the best thing ever.

“But when things don’t go well… it’s a team and a city built on hard work, it’s blue collar. I resonate with those fans incredibly well – to this day. Whether they say they hate me or not, I couldn’t care less.”

Adam’s feelings are very much mutual at Elland Road right now

Adams’ claims feel mutual. Kinnear’s view of Adams and the rest of the Leeds players leaving the club after playing a part in the club’s relegation is shared by fans, there is little affection there.

Since then, Leeds have signed Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu, and many feel that the stand-in Leeds captain, as well as Bulgarian star Gruev, are better than Adams anyway, albeit in the Championship.
