Six months after the incident, Asif, 47, was caught drink-driving, Birmingham Crown Court heard. He was jailed for nine years and banned from driving for ten years after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.

Footage from another driver showed Asif speeding on the M42. He repeatedly exclaimed: “Oh shit” when the crash happened moments later, Birmingham Crown Court heard. It happened around 2.50 am on September 3, 2022.

Asif collided with the Škoda at such speed that his Audi flipped onto its roof, Birmingham Crown Court heard. Ms Kaczorowska was driven from her home in Worcestershire to Birmingham Airport by her partner of more than 21 years, Wlodzimierz Najmul.

Mr Najmul said: “On the day of the collision I was taking Marzena to Birmingham Airport to see family in Poland, which was extremely exciting for her. He hadn’t seen them in a year and they missed each other very much. Seeing her family brought a lot of happiness.”
