MET Office: Summer is finally arriving in Bristol with a blast of 25 degrees Celsius on the way

Bristol is set to enjoy some much-needed warmth as the Met Office forecasts a summer-like change to the weather. After a rather dreary start to June, Met Office forecasters are predicting temperatures to rise to or above average for this time of year across the country.

In areas where sunshine is forecast, it will “feel very warm” over the coming days, the Met Office said. Forecasters are forecasting temperatures of around 22 degrees for today (June 19) in the region, with sunshine expected throughout the week.

Tomorrow and Friday promise more of the same, with indoor temperatures reaching 23 degrees in the city and staying in the teens in the surrounding area. However, Friday evening is expected to bring heavy rain with a band moving in from the southwest around 10pm, bringing temperatures down to around 15C during the rain.

The weekend is set to bring more sunshine and high temperatures, with the mercury expected to peak next week at around 25C. According to Met Office forecasters, the overall weather picture for the UK will become more “settled” from Wednesday.

This follows a period of “northerly airflow and cold air mass” which has resulted in showers and below average temperatures for this time of year. However, a strengthening jet stream will cause a change in the weather this week, which has been varied across the country.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Harris noted: “In stark contrast to the first half of June, where temperatures were well below average, we expect to see a steady rise in the second half of this week, increasing at around or above average and it will likely feel very warm for those in the sunlight.”

He also noted: “This initial spell of warm conditions is not expected to last too long as it becomes more changeable by Friday and into the weekend, with areas of cloud and rain moving eastwards across the UK.”
