Sheffield Tigers Speedway Official Site: THURSDAY PREMIUM: TIGERS v BELLE VUE

SHEFFIELD are aiming to add another three ROWE Motor Oil Premiership points to their tally when they host rivals Belle Vue at Owlerton on Thursday (June 20, 8pm).

The two teams are currently tied on points in the standings, with the Tru7 Group Tigers second on points differential.

It was Sheffield who claimed their first War of the Roses of the year when they dumped the Aces out of the Knockout Cup in a Super Heat in May.

But now the Tigers will be looking to get back on track on the shale pitch at home after successive ten-point defeats on their trips to King’s Lynn and Ipswich.

They have lost just once in the Steel City this term and faced a comfortable 54-36 win over Birmingham last time there.

Belle Vue, meanwhile, have managed just one away win and suffered four away defeats so far, with their strong home record the major factor in their current third place.

However, it was the Tigers who ended their long winning streak in Manchester last month with a 35-25 success in a rain-limited contest at National Speedway Stadium.

And with that aggregate point on the line, Tigers team boss Simon Stead says his riders must be up for the challenge as they expect the visitors to come out fighting.

“I’m sure Mark Lemon (Belle Vue team manager) will be rooting for his lads for that after we beat them by ten points on Bank Holiday Monday and everything that happened that day,” said Stead .

“Belle Vue has been a bit up and down on the road so far this season, but they’re one of those teams that could just turn it on away from National Speedway Stadium if they feel like it.

“However, as I always say, I have full confidence in our riders and as long as we ride as well as we know we can, then I have full confidence that the guys can go out there, get another win over the Aces and give it to us. three more points in the league.

“Everyone knows by now what this meeting means to the supporters, so hopefully we can send everyone home with smiles on their faces at 10pm.”

Sheffield are at full strength as Belle Vue use British legend Chris Harris, who won five of his six outings at Kyle Howarth’s Testimonial last week, as a guest at No.1 in place of club captain Brady Kurtz, who remains absent from the line of Aces. -up despite scoring a career-high four times in Poland on Saturday.

Among the visitors is current Grand Prix star Dan Bewley, who recently won his third consecutive British Championship title.

Supporters are reminded that due to England’s tea time kick-off against Denmark at the Euros, a slightly later kick-off time of 8pm has been agreed.

Owlerton Stadium will open the turnstiles at 4.45pm for anyone wishing to watch the game in the Panorama Room bar beforehand.

Admission is £23 for adults, £21 (over 65s and students – both with proof), £1 for children (up to and including 17), while all under 5s are admitted free .

Supporters are also reminded that the Carvery Restaurant, Panorama Room and Snack Bar will all be open as usual.
