Seven Bristol cafes serving cheap breakfasts you must try

Going out to breakfast with friends is a treat we all love to indulge in. But finding the perfect venue can sometimes be difficult, especially with all the places Bristol has to offer. Whether you’re enjoying a good old fry-up or a healthy continental dish, our city’s restaurants are full of options.

While there are many great chains dotted around the city centre, there are also a large number of independent cafes and restaurants serving up great food and drink.



We looked on TripAdvisor to see where people thought was the best place to get a good breakfast at a decent price.

Crepe and Coffee Shack

Topping the list at number one was The Crepe and Coffee Cabin located in Old City on Prince St Prince Bridge. With 319 reviews, the cafe has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor and is #2 on the Bristol Coffee & Tea list. Serving both sweet and savory crepes as well as hot and cold drinks, the place has a lot to offer.

One reviewer, who gave the venue a five-star review, said: “Delicious – I read about it here so I wanted to try it. We were not disappointed as our cheese and spinach crepes were delicious and the coffee was good. The crepes were easy to hold and served in a cup. I wanted to try the sweet crepes, but they were too full!”

Harts Bakery

Next on the list is a Hart Bakery located at 35 Lower Approach Road Arch by Bristol Temple Meads. Specializing in pastries, breads and cakes, all made in-store, Harts has long been a popular spot with locals. With a 4.5 star rating and 347 reviews on TripAdvisor, it’s no wonder the bakery ranks second.

One reviewer said: “We’ve visited twice and definitely had the best pan aux chocolat and pain aux raisins I’ve tasted anywhere, including France. The coffee was also nice, although I think it could be a bit higher given the not inconsiderable prices here. It gets very busy and clearly has a regular following.”

Small Street Espresso

Third on the list for the best places to grab a cheap breakfast is Small Street Espresso in the Old City. With a 4.5 star rating and 241 reviews on TripAdvisors, the cafe is ranked #4 in Bristol’s coffee and tea list and offers a variety of coffees, cakes and pastries.

One reviewer said: “This is my favorite coffee shop in Bristol. Great coffee, lovely cakes and a cool and pleasant place to sit. Contrary to a previous review, I find the staff (including the “brueta”) to be polite and very friendly. I talk to them whenever I’m there!”

Full Court Press

Fourth on the list is Full Court Press, which serves specialty coffees on Broad Street in the Old City. The cafe is ranked 6th in Bristol’s coffee and tea list and has received 4.5 stars out of 254 reviews on TripAdvisor.

A recent customer said: “Great coffee in a great location. Spiral staircase to an “interesting” basement and toilet which was very clean. Kind and helpful staff.”

The toast room

Next on the list is a little coffee shop called the Toast Room, located on East Street in Bedminster. Serving a wide range of breakfast and brunch options, The Toast Room is ranked 18th in Bristol’s Quick Bites list and with 73 reviews has a 5 star rating on TripAdvisor.

One satisfied customer said: “Great food, great value and very generous portions with friendly staff. The tea and coffee are also some of the best I’ve had!”

The Baristi coffee collective

Located on Victoria Street in the city centre, Baristas Coffee Collective is the sixth coffee shop listed on TripAdvisor’s Recommended Places. Serving a wide range of breakfast and lunch options, the cafe has 131 reviews and a five-star rating.

One happy reviewer, who loved how the simplicity of the meal didn’t make it any less great, said: “Excellent coffee with staff who know coffee and are happy to chat with you about their coffee to make sure you have the best coffee. the experience. Do your taste buds a favor and visit a real coffee shop instead of the chains that serve poor quality coffee, it’s a bit more expensive but worth it.”

Cafe Amore


The seventh highest rated place to get a cheap but amazing breakfast is Cafe Amore. Located on Nelson Street, Cafe Amore is number 16 on Bristol’s Quick Bites list and, with 374 reviews, has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor. Serving breakfast, lunch and brunch options there is something for everyone.

One happy customer said: “Amazing food as always! I have never had a bad meal here. Fantastic service! If you haven’t been to café amor, you’re missing out. Would highly recommend and would come back when I’m back in the area!”
