All Huddersfield figurines celebrated in the King’s Birthday Honours

The King’s Birthday Honors List recognizes the achievements and service of people across the UK – here’s a breakdown of all the key business leaders and figures in Huddersfield who have been named in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honors List.

Former Kirklees Council chief executive Jacqui Gedman has been awarded an OBE for services to local government.

In a 22-year career at Kirklees, Jacqui held a number of council posts, including director of economy, environment and skills, before being appointed chief executive in 2017. Jacqui oversaw the council’s plans for major economic investment for Huddersfield , Dewsbury and town centres. over Kirklees.

Her successor as chief executive, Steve Mawson, said: “Jacqui was a tough act to follow. She is well respected not only by her colleagues on the council but also by local councilors and all those partner organizations that provide public services in Kirklees. On behalf of her former colleagues, I am delighted to see that Jacqui’s immense contribution to Kirklees has been recognised.”

Supriya Nagarajan, founder of the arts organisation, Manasamitra, which often organizes events in Huddersfield, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to music.

As the Founder, Executive Director and Artistic Director of Manasamitra, Supriya was recommended by the Prime Minister on the advice of the independent Senior Honors Committee following an independent evaluation process.

Speaking about the award, Supriya said: “I am incredibly proud to be awarded a British Empire Medal and to be recognized amongst so many other wonderful people. Through Manasamitra, I am honored to be able to connect with so many people through the arts, helping them express themselves, experience different cultures, and transport people to a mindful space. Music and the arts have allowed me to follow my passion and help others do the same. The arts are so important to our communities here in the UK, I hope my recognition will help highlight the importance and value of the arts here in Yorkshire and across the country.”

James Sommerville, received an OBE for services to the creative industries. This was through his Huddersfield start-up, The ATTIK, funded by The King’s Trust.

Susan Grant, founder of eye care specialist The Body Doctor, has been awarded an MBE for services to entrepreneurship.
