Enfield will send $5 million to end school staff cuts

ENFIELD, CT. (WWLP) – The Enfield City Council agreed to send an additional $5 million to the Board of Education after a meeting was held last month.

The meeting announced that 130 school employees are losing their jobs as part of budget cuts. The funds are expected to come from the city’s general fund service reserves.

As part of the settlement, the Board of Education promised to repay the city nearly $2 million through a payment plan. Enfield’s mayor says taxes have risen 16% in the past two years, which is why they originally planned the cuts.
