Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has been ruled out for England’s Euro 2024 match with Denmark

England’s hopes of having Luke Shaw available for their second Euro 2024 group stage match against Denmark have taken a hit after manager Gareth Southgate confirmed the Manchester United left-back is continuing his recovery from a muscle injury that ruled him out of the February. .

Luke Shaw, one of Southgate’s regular starters at left-back with 31 caps and 3 goals, has already missed the opening win against Serbia. He is the only natural left-back in the current England squad, while Trippier took his place in the first game. However, manager Gareth Southgate remains optimistic about Shaw’s involvement later in the tour.

“He’s actually on track to where we thought he would be initially,” Southgate said. “We were hoping a few days ago we could speed it up a bit, but it needs a bit more volume.”

Although Shaw will not play against Denmark, Southgate has not ruled him out for the rest of the competition. Luke Shaw was expected to miss the opening games when he was selected by the manager in what he called a calculated risk. It remains to be seen how the risk pays off as England will look to maintain their winning start and secure a strong position in Group C.

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo saw some game time as a substitute in the closing stages of the game against Serbia and could see some action again. Denmark, on the other hand, will see Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen and striker Rasmus Hojlund resume. Eriksen is looking to add to his goal tally after scoring in the opening draw against Slovenia, while Hojlund is yet to open his account at EURO 2024.
