Are Sheffield United close to making their first summer signing?

There has been much speculation this week regarding Peterborough United captain Harrison Burrows. Rumors have started circulating on social media claiming that Burrows is on the verge of completing a move to Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, the Peterborough Telegraph said their sources have told them Burrows is due to be in Sheffield for a medical later this week, but Posh have refused to comment on the ongoing speculation.

Plus, Posh’s chairman has stirred the pot. Darragh MacAnthony responded to a Sheffield United fan on Twitter who asked him about the availability of two standout defenders: Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows. The president replied, “One out of two isn’t bad.”

Burrows, 22, has a bright future and with just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Peterborough United, it seems only a matter of time before the star left-back earns a major move to a top team, such as blades.

Harrison Burrows has been a standout player at left-back for Peterborough United since breaking into the first team. Sheffield United are very interested in the player.

If Sheffield United can sign Harrison Burrows, they would have a cheat code for the Championship

The young left-back has played at least 37 times in each of his last three league campaigns, collecting 24 assists and 13 goals in that stretch.

His creative ability is evident, ranking in the 97th percentile for assists per 90 minutes among full-backs in Ligue 1. Additionally, he excels in distributing the ball, ranking in the 96th percentile for key passes per game, 94th for centers per game and 99th in passing yards per game.

Offensively, he remains a consistent threat, ranking 84th in opponents’ penalty box touches, 85th in shots per 90 minutes and 81st percentile in goals per game from a full-back position.

United haven’t had a reliable left-back in the squad since the first Enda Stevens a few days ago in the 2019/20 campaign. It’s far too long to last without a left-back to rely on. And in Burrows you know you’ll not only have a durable player, but one you can lean on in tight games to conjure up some magic from the left flank.

If the Blades can secure the signature of Burrows, who could influence Oli McBurnie’s decision to stay at Bramall Lane; he would have plenty of chances made for him with the expert deliveries of both Burrows and Gustavo Hamer.

McBurnie would undoubtedly thrive in such an environment. Compared to other strikers in Europe’s big five leagues and European competitions, the 28-year-old won almost eight aerial duels per 90 last season, which puts him in the top 2% in Europe in that category, according to FBref.

You can only imagine how many scoring chances he will get with two assist kings to give him. Last season Burrows provided 14 assists in League One and another in the play-off semi-finals against Oxford United. Meanwhile, Hamer has created six goals in his debut Premier League campaign, registering two key assists per game.
