“There are fatalities,” RCMP say, as collision closes Alaska Highway north of Teslin, Yukon

RCMP say people have died in a collision that closed the Alaska Highway Wednesday afternoon north of Teslin, Yukon.

In a brief email to the media just after 3:30 p.m. PT, Yukon RCMP said there was a “serious two-vehicle collision” on the highway about 70 kilometers north of Teslin.

Another email from the police a few minutes later said: “There are deaths.”

Police said the highway was closed in both directions and traffic was “backed up.”

There are no other details about the collision.

Travelers are advised to check 511Yukon for any updates on the highway closure.
