Three NAC-6 teams advance to the second round of the 2024 NCHSAA softball tournament

Four NAC-6 teams entered the 2024 NCHSAA softball and now three remain after the Heritage High School loss.

Rolesville, Wake Forest and Wakefield did us proud with first round wins. They are now preparing for their next match on May 10.

Wakefield

After taking the NAC-6 tournament and going 21-2 heading into the NCHSAA tournament, Wakefield entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed. They beat East Chapel Hill 11-0, their third-highest win so far in the tournament.

Lauren McDonald, Brooke Masingale and Brianna Riehle each had two RBIs in the win. McDonald and Riehle both had runs, giving them their only runs.

Dayna Bland’s incredible pitching season continues as, in six innings pitched, she has struck out 14 batters and allowed just one hit.

Wakefield next faces No. 15 South View, which defeated Panther Creek 3-1 in the first round.

Wake Forest

The No. 11 Wake Forest Cougars knocked off No. 22 Apex 5-1 and moved on to face Gray’s Creek.

Taylor Jones led the Cougars at the plate against Apex, scoring two of Wake Forest’s three hits and recording two of the four RBIs.

The Cougars now prepare to face No. 27 Gary’s Creek, which is coming off a huge win, defeating Cardinal Gibbons 20-8.

Rolesville

Rams no. 25 pulled off a major upset in the first round, defeating the no. 8, Northern Durham, 13-0, the tournament’s second-highest first-round win.

Marissa D’Antonio and Avery Careyette each had three RBIs and two hits, while D’Antonio had a run and Careyette had two. Gianna D’Antonio had just one RBI, but had a team-high three runs on two hits.

Morgan Warren pitched an outstanding performance on the mound, striking out 12 over five innings and allowing just one hit.

Rolesville now heads to the second round to face no. 9 Willow Spring, the team that beat Heritage 2-0 in the first round.
