Leeds United have one last ace up their sleeve in the Joe Rodon battle with Leicester City and it’s huge

Joe Rodon has become one of the most sought-after transfer targets in English football so far this summer.

After his spectacular season on loan with Leeds United last term, where he helped the Whites to a Championship play-off final, his future is now up in the air.

One thing she does not lack, however, are suitors. His time at Tottenham looks to be drawing to a close now, but at the time of writing, three top clubs in Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City are batting their eyelashes at the Wales centre-back, as well as Daniel Farke’s Leeds, who I love bringing him back up north for the 2024/25 campaign.

A price of around £10m has been quoted for the 26-year-old, which shouldn’t be a major problem for the newly-promoted trio, who will now be dining at the top table again next term .

The imminent appointment of Steve Cooper at the Foxes may have thrown a wrench in the works for Leeds – Cooper and Rodon worked together at Swansea City – but the Elland Road side still have an ace up their sleeve.

Tottenham are known admirers of Leeds youngster Archie Gray, who has been outstanding last term for Farke in a number of positions.

Leeds want to keep the teenager in Yorkshire for a while yet, but should he move on this summer – particularly to Spurs – Rodon’s permanent arrival could go some way to softening the blow of Gray’s departure . A change is always good to have.

Indeed, former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has already made a switch deal available, with “big cash” also heading to Leeds should terms be reached between the two clubs.

“It would have to be big money, not just Rodon, I think there would be a lot of money on top of that,” he told Football Insider. “He had an amazing season. The guy played full back, played midfield, played as a number 10, the list goes on.

“I think it’s only going to get better. They play with such freedom and it’s refreshing to see. The way Ange (Postecoglou) plays, it suits him perfectly. He is comfortable coming inside and taking the ball with his back to play and getting forward with his ability to cross into the box.

“He’s so young too. It will be a big fee, but looking ahead, if they can bring in someone like him now, he could be there for years to come. It would be a brilliant signing for them.”
