‘Sleep well dear’ as tribute to Coventry baby mauled by family dog

An outpouring of grief has followed the news that a child has died after being mauled by a dog in Coventry. The news of the seven-month-old girl’s death shook the city.

West Midlands Police yesterday, June 19, confirmed that she died after being bitten by a dog at the family’s home in Shorncliffe Road after 3pm on Sunday, June 16. The force confirmed the dog, which was a family pet, had been knocked down.

The impact of losing such a young life led to hundreds of comments on the CoventryLive Facebook page. They all had a similar theme – the devastation for the girl’s family, who had not been publicly named.

Kirsty Michelle Ball posted: ‘My heart breaks for the family’, while Jaydee Nichola said: ‘RIP baby. My thoughts are with the family. I hope they get the support they need at this devastating time.”

Angela Sidlow said: “Thoughts of the family dear,” while Jill Berry simply posted: “Sleep well dear.”

Others asked questions about the dog and its breed. These details have not been confirmed, but the force said it was not classed as a “dangerous breed”. But overwhelmingly, the comments were sympathetic to her family.
