Sheffield Wednesday still have “some way to go” before signing their key transfer target

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been urged not to get too excited about a potential new signing.

Sheffield Wednesday have already confirmed two summer signings, with Yan Valery expected to be the third.

Free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe have now arrived at Sheffield Wednesday, with recent reports revealing that Valery is set to undergo a medical at the Owls.

The Tunisian international looks set to become the third signing of what is proving to be a very effective and exciting summer transfer window at Hillsborough.

Danny Rohl also looks set to welcome back other players, with goalkeeper James Beadle wanted again on loan from Brighton and Ike Ugbo wanted on a permanent deal from Troyes.

Rohl is also keen for Ian Poveda to return to S6; Poveda will become a free agent on July 1 after Leeds United announced he will be released.

The latest on Poveda is that Sheffield Wednesday are in talks to sign the Colombian on a free transfer.

Alex Miller urges patience with Sheffield Wednesday’s Ian Poveda

Following the news that Sheffield Wednesday were in talks with Poveda, Owls fans were quick to get excited.

The 24-year-old became an instant fan favorite after joining on loan from Leeds United in January, notching an assist in 10 Championship outings.

He gave Rohl’s team a huge boost in their eventual fight for survival. But journalist Alex Miller urged fans not to get too excited about the latest Poveda news.

Miller posted on X:

Sheffield Wednesday face a nervous wait for Ian Poveda

Poveda’s return this summer would be a very smart signing, especially as it would be a free transfer.

When fit, Poveda is one of the most dangerous and dangerous attacking players in the Championship, with his quick feet and forward thinking giving Wednesday a huge lift last season.

Injuries remain his weakness. But if Poveda can put a run of around 20 games together and then continue to build on that, then he will prove to be a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

As Miller says, however, a deal for the former Manchester City youngster is not done and Owls fans must be patient.

Expect Poveda to have a few offers on the table, and expect him to carefully weigh his next move after what have been a tough few years for him.

But after shining under Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday, Poveda may feel his development is best served by playing under the German.

So it certainly looks like the Owls have an edge in this particular transfer race, although nothing is finalised.
