Police are appealing after the fetus was found outside Barnet Hospital

Police are appealing for information following the discovery of a fetus outside Barnet Hospital.

Police were called to the scene at 9am on Monday following the discovery inside a box.

The fetus is believed to be approximately 16 weeks gestation.

The case is being treated as ‘unexplained’ and officers are urging the mother to come forward as there are concerns for her welfare.

Detective Inspector Matt Coad said: “At the moment our priority is to make sure the mum is ok and getting the appropriate medical attention.

“It is likely to be a traumatic time for her and I would ask that she contact either us, her local GP or a hospital.

“We believe the box was left by a man in his 30s who was wearing dark clothes.

“I would also encourage him to come forward so we can help.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD reference 1599/30 Jan.
