Leicester fans rage as Steve Cooper is confirmed as new manager

Leicester fans were furious after Steve Cooper was confirmed as the club’s new manager on Thursday, with the 44-year-old replacing Enzo Maresca.

The Foxes recently lost Maresca to Chelsea, with the Italian taking over from Mauricio Pochettino following his recent departure from Stamford Bridge.

Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha explained the appointment saying: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to Leicester City.

“His vision for the team, including his ability to develop players and implement a dynamic style of play, is very much in line with our aspirations for the club.

“As a leader, he has the ability to build on the strong relationship that has been created between our fans and our team, strengthening a bond that will be vital to the club’s return to the Premier League.”

However, while some Leicester fans are excited about Cooper’s appointment, not everyone is happy.

X fans have vented their anger, with a number believing the club should have taken Graham Potter.

“Absolutely appalling news. A new low for our club,” fumed one user.

A second said: “Extremely disappointing appointment from the club and shows the downward spiral we are on.”

A third said: “I am totally stunned and disgusted by this decision. Taking one step forward and 2 steps back.”

A fourth said: “How do you go from Potter and Corberan to Steve Cooper? This club is going backwards”.

“Terrible signing should have gone for Potter,” were the words of a fifth.

Another fumed: “This is not an exciting signing to be honest.”

And a seventh said: “What? This guy almost relegated Forest and they’re going for him?? Some clubs never learn.”

Leicester, however, clearly believe Cooper is the right man for the job.

The 44-year-old coached England at youth level earlier in his career and guided the Three Lions to glory at the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

Cooper did well enough at Swansea before leaving in July 2021 after a two-year spell.

He took over at Nottingham Forest in September, guiding the club to promotion to the Premier League the following year, playing free-flowing attacking football.
