Fisher at Armed Forces Day

Wigan Warriors Women’s Alice Fisher, who is a member of the RAF, looks on at the Armed Forces Celebration at the Brick Community Stadium on Friday as the Warriors take on the London Broncos.

Living in an area surrounded by RAF stations while at high school was always on the list of careers that stood out, so Fisher applied at the first opportunity once he completed his GCSEs and joined the RAF aged 17 years in 2010.

Fisher currently holds the rank of Sergeant and recently transferred to RAF Recruiting and Selection. This involves processing candidate applications, conducting selection interviews and managing bookings for medical and fitness tests, whilst interacting with the public either in schools/colleges or at public events working as part of a careers workshop.

Fisher was introduced to Rugby League while in the RAF and went on to captain the RAF and UKAF teams that competed in the Annual Inter-Service Championships and the Presidents Cup.

Speaking about the club’s Armed Forces celebration game, Fisher said: “It’s another great way to engage with the public and it means a lot that the club is leading the way in showing appreciation for what we do as an army.

“Having events like this showcases the RAF and allows the younger generation to build ambitions to pursue a career in the Armed Forces, no matter what your background or where you come from.”

On the similarities between her role in the RAF and on the Rugby League field, she added: “Teamwork, leadership, communication, determination, discipline and confidence are some of the few attributes that go hand in hand with both playing Rugby League , as well as with me. everyday role.

“These are instilled early in both Rugby League and the RAF, which is why the sport is played by so many military and talented individuals.”

Fisher joined the Warriors under Denis Betts for the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League season, where she went on to make nine appearances in all competitions, scoring three tries.
