Coventry City are closing in on signing Rudoni, medical today

Coventry City are closing in on signing Huddersfield Town man Jack Rudoni, according to Richard Cawley.

Coventry City are preparing for another year in the Championship.

The Sky Blues finished 9th in the second tier last season, but Mark Robins’ side can take their season on quite a positive note, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup only to lose on penalties to Manchester United.

Huddersfield Town cannot say the same. They suffered relegation to League One and the Terriers are preparing to challenge in the third tier in a bid to secure promotion at the first time of asking.

Rudoni, 23, scored five and assisted three in 35 league outings last season. The versatile midfielder joined Huddersfield Town in 2022 from AFC Wimbledon, where he managed some impressive League One campaigns as a youngster.

He has already proven himself capable of playing in the second tier and it is no surprise, amid the Terriers’ relegation, that Rudoni could find himself immediately back in the Championship.

Coventry City were linked with a move for the midfielder earlier this month.

Now it looks like a deal is almost complete with a medical booked this afternoon as both clubs look to get the final details over the line.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Life without Rudoni

Huddersfield Town join Rotherham United and Birmingham City as the other two teams to suffer last season’s drop.

The Millers under Steve Evans and the Blues under Chris Davies have both had positive starts to the summer window.

Rotherham United are no strangers to this challenge and many will be expecting them to get promoted again, without fail to do so after relegation.

Birmingham City have the foundations in place and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them immediately return to the second tier, but things don’t look as bright for Huddersfield Town.

There’s still a long way to go this summer, but Michael Duff has his work cut out for him this season.

It only goes one way

Coventry City only seem to be going in one direction under the Robins at the moment.

Since their promotion in 2020, the Sky Blues have adapted effortlessly to the Championship. Their first year in the division saw them finish 16th, but since then it has been followed by 12th, 5th and 9th.

They should be in the top six again this season and on their day they can be one of the most dangerous teams in the league.

Rudoni would add to the quality of their squad and it will be interesting to see if this is completed as the Robins use the young talent next season.
