‘Powerful’ household item that can clean moldy silicone sealant in 10 minutes

Mold is often the culprit behind the staining of silicone sealants and can be a pain to remove. Silicone sealants are liquid adhesives that create a protective, water-resistant barrier where sinks, tubs and showers meet tile or synthetic walls.

Unfortunately, even sealants are not immune to the hot, humid conditions in bathrooms, which provide an ideal breeding ground for mold. If left unattended, mold will eventually destroy your silicone bathroom sealant and can harm your health, requiring removal and replacement—a process that can be both time-consuming and expensive.

Fortunately, cleaning silicone sealant is simpler than you might think with the right knowledge. Elizabeth Shields, operations manager at Super Cleaning Service Louisville, suggests that households can complete the task in “10 minutes” using just one item – hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide has the ability to kill bacteria, viruses, mold, fungus, and more, and leaves no toxic residue behind, unlike bleach. This means that there is no need to rinse the surfaces immediately after cleaning and sanitizing them.

Elizabeth explained: “Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful disinfectant, it bleaches easily and has cleaning properties,” reports the Express.

She advised: “To use, you will need a three percent hydrogen peroxide solution. Spray it on the affected area, wait 10 minutes, rub and rinse.”

After this, wipe the area with a clean cloth or sponge to ensure that all residue has been removed.

Households can buy hydrogen peroxide from Amazon for just £4.99 or even cheaper at £2.99 from eBay.
