Once victim of cruelty, dog found in Enfield ready for adoption

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield officials appear to be on the verge of turning a potentially tragic animal cruelty case into a real happy ending.

And the thing about a once malnourished dog is that it is no longer thin.

In a social media post Wednesday, police and animal control told the story of Zooka, who is up for adoption.

Zooka is about 2 years old and is believed to be a pit bull-pointer mix. About six months ago, he was found on a roaming call that turned into a cruelty case that ended up in the Connecticut court system.

When she was found, Zooka had a minor ear infection and weighed just 38 pounds. “Most of the skeletal system” was visible because its previous owner “neglected to feed it,” police and animal control officials said.

He very quickly gained his body weight back and is healthy again, weighing about 70 pounds. He now has great energy, officials said.

“He knows some manners, but he could use the training,” officials joked. “He’s been with us for about six months and would like a new, loving home as soon as possible.”

Zooka can be adopted through Enfield Animal Control at 860-763-8944 or by email at [email protected].
