More liquid controls at Birmingham Airport

BIRMINGHAM Airport has launched additional temporary measures to help passengers get through security this summer.

The measures include the opening of an expanded temporary structure offering more “liquid check stations” to ensure customers’ hand luggage* complies with new government regulations introduced this month.

The airport says the facility will be staffed by third-party customer service specialists who will check that customers are complying with the temporary liquid rules on carry-on baggage rules.

She added that these additional liquid screening stations are essential to support the airport’s existing security teams and customers who are now subject to these additional restrictions.

Nick Barton, chief executive of Birmingham Airport, said: “These new measures are designed to give passengers an easier and smoother experience through security. Our extended teams will be on hand to explain the new clearance rules, which we all need to follow, and to help passengers prepare for security.

“The more we can do together to reduce the number of bags that do not comply with these rules, the more we can reduce queues at security.

“Our additional teams aim to help customers travel through the airport with minimal inconvenience arising from these restrictions this summer.

“As always, our advice is to only present when advised by your airline and remember that only containers of 100ml or less of liquids, pastes and gels can be carried in hand luggage.”

Birmingham Airport is implementing these additional temporary facilities to help passengers cope with the reintroduction of these rules.

Since the restrictions were introduced on June 9, Birmingham Airport says it has removed around 1.5 tonnes of liquids, pastes and gels every day to ensure customers comply with government regulations.
