North Andover woman charged with motor vehicle homicide in crash: YES

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A North Andover woman faces a number of charges following a building accident that left another woman dead Sunday night, according to a statement from Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker.

Police responded to the call at around 11pm on Sunday. A vehicle crashed into Daeva Hair Salon on Main Street in North Andover, according to Boston 25 News.

Diana Melo, 37, of Lawrence was pronounced dead after being transported to Lawrence General Hospital. It is unclear if Melo was in a vehicle or inside the building when the accident occurred.

Vickiana Vargas-Guevara, 28, of North Andover, was charged with vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol and negligent, vehicular manslaughter by reckless operation, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, leaving property damage, operating under the influence of liquor and reckless operation, according to Tucker’s statement.

She was arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court. Tucker asked that bail be set at $250,000, with conditions of GPS monitoring with house arrest, no alcohol, no driving and a substance abuse evaluation with aftercare.

A judge set bail at $50,000 and approved conditions requested by prosecutors other than GPS monitoring with house arrest.

Vargas-Guevara is due back in court on July 17.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
