Gogglebox’s Mary and Giles speak out after fears they ‘broke up’

Gogglebox’s beloved duo Mary Killen and Giles Wood have spoken candidly about their marriage following concerns raised by Giles’ playful comment that they “talk hard”. The eccentric couple are well known for their light-hearted banter, with Giles humorously suggesting they are “incompatible”.

Despite being married for 30 years and the parent of two grown-up daughters, Mary admitted in a recent interview that their on-screen split had caused concern among viewers.

Asked if audiences could relate to their marital dynamic, Giles commented, “There’s a friction there.”

Mary, originally from Larne, agreed but stressed that fans would not want to see them split up.

“I think they like that we disagree agreeably. They like that we fight, but we don’t break up,” she expressed, reports Belfast Live.

Giles added: “When we first started, there were (comments about us) on Twitter, and although we don’t look at Twitter, I looked at it once or twice, out of morbid curiosity, at three in the morning.” .

He also shared with Idler, “Some were favorable and said ‘relationship gold,’ meaning ‘I wish I could have a fight with my spouse and then laugh about it at the end.’ Some families sulk for three days when they argue with each other”.

The couple’s love story began when they were just 21 years old and have now been happily married for over three decades. Mary previously revealed that the show eventually fixed their marriage.

Speaking to the Daily Star, she shared: ‘Giles and I were like ships passing in the night. I woke up early, he went to bed late and we rarely even ate together.”

She added: “I know a couple of couples who have split up because they decided they couldn’t stand each other.”

“Watching TV together reminded us how much we enjoyed the same jokes.”

Since their first appearance on Gogglebox in 2015, which allowed them more time together, the couple have captured the hearts of viewers.

Their endearing habit of calling each other ‘crazy’ is often heard on the Channel 4 show.
