First look at Sheffield Theatres’ highly anticipated show Chariots of Fire

“Where does the strength come from to see the race to the end? Within”

Sheffield Theaters announces the cast for Chariots of Fire, running at the Crucible from Saturday 6 – Saturday 27 July 2024. It’s a stunning new production with a soaring musical score, adapted from the Oscar-winning film by Mike Bartlett and directed by Robert Hastie.

Chariots of Fire is based on the remarkable events of the 1924 Olympic Games. The production marks the 100th anniversary of the true stories of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, who compete for acceptance and glory as they fight to become the fastest people on Earth.

Based on an extraordinary true story, both men yearn for the simplicity of the play as they fight for their faith and their nation in this inspirational and moving story of courage, honor and conviction.

The company is completed by members of Sheffield People’s Theatre, the intergenerational theater company of Sheffield Theatres. Many familiar names return to Sheffield after previously starring in productions at Sheffield Theatres, including Richard Cant (Original Sin), Bessy Ewa (Beauty and the Beast), Lois Pearson (Much Ado About Nothing), Eddie-Joe Robinson (Coriolanus) , Ciaran Stewart. , (Much Ado About Nothing), Chanel Waddock, (PIECE / PAPER / SCISSORS), Leo Wan (The Good Person of Szechwan), Iverson Yabut (Miss Saigon). Many other cast members are making their debut in Sheffield Theatres’ production of Chariots of Fire, including Sally Frith, Adam Bregman, Waleed Elgadi, Tom Glenister, Mark Lockyer, Seb Slade, Michael Wallace and Benjamin Westerby.

There will also be a very special fundraising gala for the Chariots of Fire show where you can buy a range of tickets and help raise vital funds to support Sheffield theatres’ work with young people.
