Leeds United and Sheff Weds have been boosted in their pursuit of a £2.8m jewel

Championship duo Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday have been given a boost in their pursuit of Karamoko Dembele this summer as the player will be available for sale, according to reports.

The Whites face a tough task of keeping hold of several key players after missing out on promotion to the Premier League last month following a defeat to Southampton in the play-off final. One star likely to be headed for the exit door is Crysencio Summerville. The Dutchman has had an incredible campaign in England’s second tier, scoring 21 goals and registering 10 assists for the Whites in all competitions, including 29 league goals.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer after such a stellar campaign, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea keen to secure his signature, although latest reports have revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion it is approaching the extreme which is priced at £30 million a head.

Furthermore, Wilfried Gnonto is another striker who could be set to leave Leeds United in the coming months after attracting interest from the English top flight and clubs in Italy. As a result, the West Yorkshire outfit will need to find replacements for the duo.

It was reported by HITC in March that Leeds were following Dembele’s progress at Blackpool to sign him in the summer. Meanwhile, The Star’s Joe Crann claimed three weeks ago that Sheffield Wednesday are also hoping to bring Dembele back to English football.

The 21-year-old has now returned to Stade Brestois from his loan spell at Bloomfield Road, where he scored nine times and registered 14 assists for the Seasiders. Brest sporting director Gregory Lorenzi has revealed via L’Equipe that the French side will look to sell the wide-opener this summer as the club look to raise transfer money. Dembele currently boasts a market value of between £1.8m and £2.8m, according to FootballTransfers.

The writer’s vision

This is a huge boost for any suitors for Dembele, be it Leeds United or Sheffield Wednesday. There is a chance the forward could return to France from his Ligue 1 loan spell and become a first-team player at Brest ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. However, this now seems incredibly unlikely after Lorenzi’s revelation.

Dembele was too good for the third tier last season during his time at Blackpool, but the Championship will provide him with a newer and more exciting challenge to cut his teeth on. Whoever puts their hands on it permanently signs a gem.
