The main road will be closed overnight for bridge repair work following the accident

The A38 is set to close overnight this weekend ahead of work to repair a bridge which has been damaged in a crash. The bridge near Bodmin Parkway station was hit in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon (June 15).

Following the accident, the A38 was closed in both directions between the A30 at Dobwalls and the A390 at Carminnow Cross. The road remained blocked at 4.15pm on Sunday, with delays in the area.

National Highways said temporary traffic lights have been installed on both sides of the bridge and a 40mph speed limit is also in place. Motorists have been urged to plan ahead as delays are expected.

Engineers will build scaffolding on the outside of the bridge to create a platform to carry out the repair work, which is expected to take place by June 30. Specialist masons will also be brought in to help repair the bridge.

The Highways Agency was already due to carry out routine inspections and rock surveys along the A38 Glynn Valley this weekend. The road will be closed as part of a planned closure from late Saturday (June 23) until early Sunday (June 24) and highways chiefs said scaffolding would then be installed.
