Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Jonathan David

Manchester United have reportedly advanced their bid to sign LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David, a target for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils have advanced their talks to sign the LOSC Lille striker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Canadian international is also a target for other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Jonathan David and the story of LOSC Lille

Jonathan David has established himself as one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020. While the 24-year-old has blown hot and cold over the past four years, he has been an essential figure for Les Dogues throughout his time at the Ligue 1 club.

The Canadian international has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in the 2023/24 season, collecting 26 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, David’s exploits for Lille have not gone unnoticed, attracting the attention of several high profile clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man on demand

Chelsea will enter the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. While Nicolas Jackson has stepped up in the closing weeks of the 2023/24 season, he has blown hot and cold for most of the campaign. So it behooves Chelsea to invest in a striker, with the Lilla forward becoming a viable target.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Jonathan David is understandable. The Red Devils are in the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Anthony Martial as a free agent. David thus became a viable target, with Manchester United advancing talks to secure his services.

As for Tottenham, the north London giants are also keen to sign a striker after failing to replace Harry Kane with a recognized top-tier forward last summer. David is thus an option worthy of consideration for Tottenham.

However, with Manchester United advancing talks to sign the LOSC Lille forward, Chelsea and Tottenham face an uphill task in signing him from the Ligue 1 club. Meanwhile, David’s suitors hope to secure his services through a £30 million deal.
