Two tonnes of rubbish dumped on Kirklees Road

An East Bierley Road has been used as a dumping ground and Kirklees Council wants to sue.

Piles of rubbish were abandoned on Cliffe Hollins Lane, forcing the council to temporarily close the road yesterday (June 20). A bathtub and carpet rolls are among the items found on the road linking East Bierley and Oakenshaw.

Kirklees Council removed two tonnes of waste from the site and will be looking for evidence to try and bring whoever is responsible to justice. On social media, the local authority also warned residents not to fall prey to “rogue” waste handlers.

David Shepherd, Strategic Director for Growth and Regeneration at Kirklees Council, said: “Kirklees Council was informed by colleagues from West Yorkshire Police shortly after midnight on June 20 about the flying tip on Cliffe Hollins Lane, East Bierley. The road was closed by the standby operator until daylight hours when the area could be safely cleared.

“By 9.30am, the two tonnes of debris had been removed and the road was reopened. The waste will now be examined for evidence by our team.
