Player says medical to blame for failed Leeds United transfer – admits he failed tests

When a player fails a medical, it is often refused due to concerns that it could put off other clubs in the future.

This seems to have been the case with Leeds United and Michael Cuisance. In the 2020 summer window, the midfielder was the subject of a move by the Whites.

Bayern Munich and Leeds United agreed a deal and the transfer was on the way to completion until it all fell apart at the last minute.

Cuisance went on to join Marseille and denied his move to England had failed due to a medical problem.

He was later quoted by Sky as saying: “There was no problem with the medical, the one with Marseille went very well, I’m fit and ready to play.”

Marseille also went public to insist that he found absolutely no problem in the medical tests. Cuisance went on loan at the French club and then signed for Venezia, later being loaned to Sampdoria.

He was then loaned out to VfL Osnabrück in the 2.Bundesliga for the recently concluded season and the team finished bottom of the German second division and were relegated.

Speaking to Ouest France, Cuisance addressed the Leeds United issue and this time admitted there was a medical problem.

Asked about his loan at Marseille, he said: “Full of emotions. But maybe I made a premature decision going there. I was supposed to sign for Leeds, coached by Bielsa. He was blocked for medical reasons… In short. In the process, everything comes together. But I can’t regret OM. There, it’s all or nothing, that’s beautiful. We change coaches three times, the one who reaches the end of the season (Sampaoli) has no plans with loan players. A manager from Venice contacted me. And everything didn’t go as planned…”

Still only 24, Cuisance has time to salvage his top-flight career and is finally getting things going.

Nearing him now, he said: “It’s day and night. Before, I didn’t spend so much time on all the extra stuff. Now, after training, I go to the weight room almost every day. I have a nutritionist, a physiotherapist, a fitness trainer… A real team. Before, I saw this as a waste of money. Today, I consider it an investment.”

And on what he wants for the rest of his career: “You don’t want anything from me. Things will happen because I deserve them. And I believe in it.”

Good luck Michael!
