Middlesbrough have held talks with Lowe, with him set to sign on Wednesday

Middlesbrough held talks with Max Lowe before he opted to sign for Sheffield Wednesday, according to The Star.

Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday are both preparing for the 2024/25 season.

Both clubs will compete in the championship again this year.

Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough finished four points outside the top six last season and will be hoping to strengthen this summer to close the gap.

Meanwhile, the Owls narrowly avoided the drop by beating Sunderland to stay awake on the final day. Danny Rohl’s side have completed an incredible turnaround with all eyes now on them this summer.

Lowe, 27, played ten Premier League games for Sheffield United last season. He played 26 league games last season, contributing seven goals from right-back.

He is set to become a free agent later this month and, in a shock move, will go straight to rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

In the latest update, it was reported that Lowe will sign a two-year deal at Hillsborough and has held talks with several other Championship clubs, one of which is Boro.

However, Rohl is believed to have been the deciding factor as the German coach convinced him to accept his ideas and commit his future to the club.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

The sky is the limit

Momentum is really behind Sheffield Wednesday at the moment.

Rohl seems to have a lot of pulling power when it comes to tempting players at Sheffield Wednesday and is obviously a highly regarded and respected manager.

Lowe adds Championship and top-flight experience but has been there and done that when it comes to promotion. He will be a welcome addition to their dressing room and will hope to play more consistently this season than he has in the past.

Making dust

While the defender would have been a good addition for Boro as well, they shouldn’t be too concerned about missing out on this one.

Carrick’s side are not a million miles away from getting over the line and while they need reinforcements this summer, the feeling is still positive on Teesside.

Sheffield Wednesday will almost certainly be in a stronger position this season and are being tipped by some to make an outside push for the top six.

And Boro will be hoping to do the same. It will be interesting to see how both teams start next season and if one of them can solidify an early playoff spot.
