Live: Tube and train closures and delays as thousands head to Taylor Swift’s Eras tour at Wembley Stadium

Taylor Swift’s Eras tour has finally arrived in London today and with it has brought significant disruption to train services. Single line trains will not stop at Wembley Stadium National Station on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June due to overcrowding fears, so the network will be slightly disrupted throughout the day.

Industrial action on some Northern Rail services will also affect trains connecting northern cities today, meaning key travel hubs into London may be affected.

No Chiltern Railway trains will call at Wembley on Saturday and Sunday as there will be no direct service from Euston to Birmingham New Street due to unrelated engineering work. As a result, Chiltern Railways is running extra trains between Birmingham Moor Street and Marylebone, so none of the trains passing through Wembley Stadium station will run.

A spokesman for Chiltern Railways explained: “Unfortunately, it is not possible for services to call at Wembley Stadium as well as provide the additional capacity required between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street. We are sorry for the inconvenience it will cause.”

Trains from the Midlands connecting London will be packed with Swifties heading to the capital for the concert. No trains will call at Kings Sutton, Hatton and Lapworth on the route to London on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June, while there will also be no service between Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway (via Amersham) all day. Interchange buses are available for the rails.

Due to industrial action by Northern Rail, key transport hubs as far north as London may be affected, such as Manchester Piccadilly, Stoke on Trent, Nottingham and Liverpool Central. These large stations could see rush hour crowds and delays as the ASLEF union has announced “action outside of a strike”, meaning cancellations are likely at short notice.

The Tube is also set to be swarmed by fans in the North West today as they make the pilgrimage to the show.

Tube and Overground Breaks

London’s public transport network will be taking on much of the Swiftie crowds today. Delays are expected to increase as the day progresses.

Northern Rail industrial action will affect Swifties arriving from the north

Industrial action by the ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) union will mean that Northern Rail services could be canceled at short notice – especially later services and especially on Sundays.

This could affect fans traveling from some of the country’s main transport hubs for London, such as Manchester Piccadilly, Stoke on Trent, Nottingham and Liverpool Central.

National Rail advised passengers to check their journey before travelling, as close to their journey time as possible. Short notice cancellations are also expected in the North West on Sunday 23 June.

ASLEF has organized union members to take “non-strike action” between Saturday June 1 and Saturday July 27, affecting some services in the north. Most services will run as scheduled, but a higher number of short-notice cancellations (especially the last trains of the day) are expected, especially on Sundays.

No Chiltern trains will call at Wembley Stadium

No Chiltern Rail services will call at Wembley Stadium tomorrow Saturday and Sunday this weekend (June 22-23). This is due to fears of overcrowding the nearby stadium with crowds of supporters expected in the area.

Due to unrelated engineering works, there will not be a direct service from Euston to Birmingham New Street. This means Chiltern Railways are running extra trains between Birmingham Moor Street and Marylebone instead to deal with the extra passengers expected, so none of their trains passing through Wembley Stadium station will run.
