New head vet appointed at Birmingham Dogs Home

BIRMINGHAM Dogs Home has welcomed a new head vet.

Dr Naomi Bradford has been appointed Chief Veterinarian at the Catherine-De-Barnes Charity Center Veterinary Clinic.

Naomi, who graduated from Nottingham University Veterinary School, started her career caring for wildlife in South Africa, Naomi returned to the UK where she continued to work in small animal practice before joining Birmingham Dogs Home in 2023.

Naomi said: “I’ve always had a passion for charity work and as a student I did many placements in rescue centres. Since then, I have always been keen to incorporate this into my work.

“Working at Birmingham Dogs Home has given me the chance to care for dogs who don’t yet have families, alongside owned animals.

“I look forward to continuing the great work that Birmingham Dogs Home and The Vet Clinic are doing by building a team to provide high quality care to all our dogs and other pets.”

The Veterinary Clinic is an independent practice owned by Birmingham Dogs Home, a registered charity.

The purpose-built clinic consists of three consultation rooms, separate wards for dogs and cats, a dental room, an operating theatre, a laboratory area and a diagnostic imaging room.

Fi Harrison, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “We are delighted to appoint Naomi as Head Vet at The Vet Clinic. Her passion and care for animals is inspiring and we look forward to seeing her bring this to the role.

“Running our own veterinary clinic means we can significantly reduce the cost of essential medical care and better manage both emergencies and the ongoing physical health of dogs on the road to recovery.

“Proceeds from the clinic help fund the vital life-changing and life-saving work of Birmingham Dogs Home’s rescue centres, which care for over 2,000 abandoned dogs in the Midlands each year.”

The Veterinary Clinic at Birmingham Dogs Home is open to the general public and offers a full service general practice for dogs, cats and some small animals.
