Three Huddersfield park robberies in five days – full police statement as manhunt begins

A police manhunt has been launched after a man was robbed at knifepoint in Greenhead Park in Huddersfield – the third robbery in the park this week.

West Yorkshire Police say two men approached the victim, a 20-year-old man, and threatened him with a knife before stealing his mobile phone. The attack happened yesterday (Thursday, June 20) at 1.40pm, but is the third this week.

Police are now investigating whether the attacks – the first two of which happened just minutes apart – are linked. The suspects in the latest robbery are described as: a black male in his early 20s wearing a black tracksuit and a white teenager with strawberry blonde hair wearing a faded green tracksuit.

This robbery follows two attempted robberies on Monday (June 17) and officers are keeping an open mind as to whether the same people could be involved, a force spokesman confirmed.

Now police have increased patrols in the city park in a bid to catch the suspects and keep visitors safe and quiet.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “If anyone has any information which could assist police investigations into this robbery or any other incidents at the park, they are asked to come forward. Those living in the area around the park are also asked to check their CCTV cameras for any men matching the descriptions of the suspects.”
