The UK government issues an alert for its citizens in Kenya

This comes days after the US Embassy in Nairobi issued a warning to US citizens in Kenya.

The United Kingdom (UK) government has warned its Kenyan citizens of anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.

In a safety advisory on Friday, June 21, the British government said injuries had been reported following protests across the country.

The UK government noted that anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests were expected to continue in parts of the country and urged its citizens to avoid large crowds and monitor local media for updates.

“They were injured in the anti-government political demonstrations in recent months. Planned protests over the 2024 finance bill are expected to continue in several Kenyan cities, including Nairobi.

“Avoid political gatherings and large crowds and monitor local media to see when and where major protests are likely,” the advisory said.

This comes days after the US Embassy in Nairobi warned US citizens about anti-funding demonstrations in Nairobi.

In an advisory on Tuesday, June 18, the US Embassy asked American citizens to be vigilant and avoid large gatherings around the Nairobi CBD.

The US Embassy advised US citizens to avoid protest and demonstration areas, monitor local media for updates, keep a low profile and notify friends and family of their safety.

The Embassy also urges US citizens to be aware of their surroundings, review personal security plans, remain alert in tourist/foreigner-frequented locations, and have travel documents that are up-to-date and easily accessible.

On Thursday, Kenyans took to the streets to express their displeasure with the Finance Bill 2024.

In Nairobi, hundreds of youths turned out to demand the scrapping of the 2024 Funding Act.

However, the protesters were met by heavily deployed riot and GSU officers, who blocked them from marching towards Parliament.

Officers were forced to fire several canisters of tear gas and use water cannons to stop the angry Kenyans.
