Major roadworks planned in Enfield for nine weeks this summer

Gas suppliers Cadent will replace pipes in Slades Hill from Tuesday 25 June

Roadworks on a major route between the west and east of the borough are set to cause disruption in Enfield for nine weeks this summer.

Work will start on Tuesday (25) to replace aging gas pipes in Slades Hill – part of the A110 – as engineers from Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, take steps to secure gas supplies safe and reliable.

The current pipes have been in place for over 80 years and are nearing the end of their service life. The planned work will involve the insertion of almost a quarter of a mile of hard new pipes, which will last for decades, and is supposed to “future-proof” the Enfield network.

Following consultation with Enfield Council, Cadent has agreed to carry out this essential work between Tuesday 25 June and Friday 30 August.

The scheme will require road traffic management along Slades Hill from the junction of Windmill Gardens, Slades Gardens and Chase Ridings.

As the project progresses, it will be necessary to close Chase Ridings, expected from Monday, August 9. Diversion routes will be set up.

Cadent project manager Graham Huggett said: “We have a responsibility to ensure that every property that uses gas has access to it 24/7, 365 days a year and this essential work will mean we continue to deliver this promise.

“We know it is far from ideal to have any kind of traffic management in a congested area, but we have worked hard with the local authority to create a plan to maintain traffic flow and maintain access for businesses and residents locals.

“We are very aware of the cause of the roadworks disruption and are in regular contact with the highways authority to keep them informed of our work, which we will always complete as quickly and safely as possible.”

Due to the nature of the work being carried out there will be times when the gas supply to the properties will be interrupted. If you are a resident and your gas supply will be affected as part of this work, our team will contact you directly to resolve any queries. This will only be for a short time. Gas supply is usually restored the same day it goes out.
