“Vibrant” live acoustic shows from Leicester to Highcross this weekend

Leicester’s musical talent will be celebrated in a special event this weekend. Organizers say the presentation will provide a “vibrant” atmosphere for all.

The series of live acoustic performances will take place on Saturday (June 22) in St Peter’s Square, in front of the lighthouses of Leicester’s Highcross shopping centre. The event marks this year’s World Music Day, which is celebrated on Friday (June 21), with Highcross bosses teaming up with social enterprise 2 Funky Arts to showcase a range of musical talent from the county.

The line-up includes Dani Matty, a 27-year-old singer-songwriter and producer from Leicester who has been writing songs on acoustic guitar since the age of 14. She will be joined by Jake Thompson, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter who will perform a mix of released and unreleased songs from his catalog.

Saturday’s bill also includes 18-year-old Sariah Carter. The singer-songwriter writes ballads with elements of blues, country and indie-alternative music and aims to put on a real show for shoppers and everyone around.

Jo Tallack, Senior Managing Director of Highcross, said: “At Highcross, we are big supporters of creativity and community, and big believers in the unique powers music has to bring people together.

“World Music Day, although it’s on the 21st, has given us the perfect opportunity to continue to celebrate the incredible local talent we have in Leicester. We are proud to partner with 2 Funky Arts to showcase these highly skilled and blossoming artists while providing a unique and vibrant atmosphere for our visitors to enjoy. We invite everyone, of all ages, to join us for a free afternoon of memorable acoustic performances and be a part of this special occasion.”
