Trent Alexander-Arnold has been singled out again for his performances in England’s midfield by former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

Alexander-Arnold has been named as Declan Rice’s midfield partner again for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 group stage match against Denmark on Thursday.

The Liverpool right-back lasted just 54 minutes, being taken off by England manager Gareth Southgate and replaced by Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

“When you’ve been sent off in the two games, it’s not a good sign,” Keane told ITV. “I always thought it was a huge gamble to play a player who doesn’t play that week in week out for his club.

“I know people say he’s going there for Liverpool. But going into a position and leaving is completely different. I played in midfield, it’s a tough position. Physically, getting distances and he fell short in the two games.

According to a former Liverpool player, Alexander-Arnold was England’s scapegoat ahead of their Euro 2024 campaign.

Ryan McLaughlin, who played in the Reds’ under-21s alongside Raheem Sterling and Caoimhin Kelleher, believes the home hero is the Three Lions’ most creative player but is being mismanaged by Southgate.

“Trent was the scapegoat before a ball was kicked in this tournament,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“There have been worse midfielders. He would be England’s most creative player at right back but they refuse to admit it. Lol crazy.”

Liverpool could have the opportunity to bolster their squad with two stars from Real Madrid this summer following reports of an “internal war” at the Santiago Bernabeu following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

According to Brazilian publication UOL (via TEAMtalk ), there are concerns in the Real Madrid camp about playing time next season as Mbappe and Endrick prepare to join a star-studded squad in the Spanish capital.

As a result, a number of Real forwards are concerned about how much game time they will get next term, including Liverpool-linked striker Rodrygo.

The Reds have been touted with a sensational move for the serial Champions League winner in recent months, although they would likely have to fork out close to £100million for his signature.

A deal for the Brazilian star looks unlikely, but UOL report that Real are willing to let one of their attacking prospects leave this summer. However, the most likely is young Turkish international Arda Guler, who could secure a season-long loan at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool could reportedly be interested in adding the 19-year-old attacking midfielder to their squad next term.

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has urged the Reds to sign £60million Crystal Palace star Michael Olise this summer as they target a new striker.

Olise, 22, scored 10 goals and added six assists in just 19 Premier League games last season, excelling towards the end of the campaign, particularly under Oliver Glasner.

“He will go to another Premier League club this summer,” Collymore wrote for Caught Offside.

“I think it would make perfect sense for Liverpool. You’d think Arne Slot would be given a ‘welcome to Liverpool gift’ which of course would be a player.

“If I’m Olise and I have a choice between Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, what have you – I go to Liverpool all day.”
